According to their by-laws, the Buckley Parents’ Association (PA) assists in the school’s social and cultural activities; creates a closer relationship among the school, the students, and the parents; and assists in fundraising. Indeed, the PA was able to fulfill this mission under the strong leadership of President Nicole Perry and the PA board in 2014 - 2015.
With Nicole’s direction, PA board members and volunteers greatly contributed to the quality and merit of overall school life by sponsoring programs and activities that encourage participation by every member of the community. This active involvement and volunteerism has helped families connect with each other and improved opportunities for all students.
In 2014 - 2015, the PA generated the largest attendance at the free Back-to-School BBQ (hosted jointly by the PA and the Advancement Department) and PA meetings; had record breaking Buckley merchandise sales and nearly new uniform sales benefiting financial aid; and hosted an outstanding Buckley Holiday Boutique. Also this year, the PA successfully revived the Dads’ Committee by inviting community members to casual meetings at local restaurants, joining Dad baseball games on Gilley field, and assisting at the BBQ and the fair.
On a sunny day in late May, more than 1,400 members of the Buckley community gathered in support of the We Go Together themed fair at the Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. Parents, guardians, grandparents, faculty, and friends enjoyed the fair’s lounge and toasted the achievements of the year as they bid on the wonderful auction items. Students relished the exciting rides, cool games, food, and music of this private bash. All of this took place against the backdrop of a beautiful Southern California sunset!
Collaboration between the Buckley community and the PA leadership this year helped to raise more than $280,000, which was allocated by the PA executive board to various programs that benefit Buckley students and faculty. The Buckley School is grateful to Nicole Perry and the PA board for their dedication and passion in upholding the school’s core value of inclusiveness in many creative and fun ways.
